Confirmation of Chairman & Vice-Chairman

To confirm the Chairman and Vice Chairman for this meeting.

It was noted that Dan would be the chairman and Archie would be the Vice-

Chairman for this meeting.

Welcome Guest Dr James Bettley, High Sheriff of Essex

Minutes:

The Chairman welcomed the special guest Dr James Bettley, the High Sheriff of Essex who attended the meeting as an observer and to present awards to the Youth Councillors.

The amendment was agreed and signed by the Chairman as a correct record.

Guest Speaker Nicky Kaur from TRYLIFE

Minutes:

Nicky Kaur from TryLife gave a brief description about their work. Trylife make interactive dramas that give young people an opportunity to act out decisions in a safe environment. TryLife is an interactive drama created by some of the best emerging UK talent. Auditions for the next film will start early December. Nicky will send information to Di.

Youth Conference 2019

Minutes:

Di reported that the event will take place on Friday 22nd November. All schools have been invited. Braeside have sent apologies due to other commitments however the school have given their permission for Youth Councillors Samantha and Simran to attend and assist in hosting the event.

 

 

189.

Youth Councillor Updates

Youth Councillors to report on school issues, achievements, events and training that they have accomplished since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Braeside School - Samantha reported that Braeside were organising a Christmas    Card Competition.

           

Roding Valley HighSchool- Dan and Zak reported that Roding Valley have a Debate on Friday.

 

Davenant Foundation School - Onyeka, Eleanor, Archie, Barnaby, James & Jasmine reported they have been working on a film called the ‘The Journey’ which is about three Year 7’s life at Secondary School and their experience of going through school. 

Eleanor reported the 6th form had Driving Lessons at school. The school is also organising a Christmas Fair within the next three weeks, which is welcome to anyone.

 

Epping St John’s School - Megan reported that Epping St Johns held a Band Competition the winners received recording time in a studio. Year 11 and 13 Mocks have started.

 

King Harold Academy - Tom reported that King Harold academy were organising their first big show in 10 years, Rock School, auditions will start early December. They will be attending the Carrol Service in the abbey.

 

Pupils and Youth Councillors also took part in various Remembrance Sunday   services, including Epping, Loughton and Waltham Abbey.

             

 

190.

Youth Councillor Representatives

Minutes:

Di thanked all Parents who attended the Remembrance Services with the Youth Councillors.

 

Epping Forest Youth Councillors have been invited to attend numerous meetings and events, Youth Councillors have been advised to take some time to consider what meetings they would wish to attend and to think about only selecting 1 or 2 so they are not over committing as regular attendance is important. Some meetings meet termly or quarterly. 

 

A list of the meetings and committees was distributed to all Youth Councillors. Youth Councillors are expected to report back to the full youth council meetings.

WE R SAFE ASSEMBLIES

Minutes:

Megan and Ollie delivered 3 We R Safe assemblies to Epping St Johns Year 7, 8 and 9 students, over 500 students took part in the evaluation quiz.

Davenant Youth Councillors delivered the We R Safe presentation to Years 7 and 8, over 400 pupils took part in the evaluation quiz.

Diane reported that she delivered the We R Safe presentation to the Safer Epping meeting on 4th November. The films were well received.

 

 

192.

CRY Fundraising

Minutes:

Cardiac Risk in the Young (C.R.Y.) provide subsidised ECG and Echocardiogram screening to all young people between the ages of 14 & 35 at designated venues. There is a simple way to diagnose most cardiac abnormalities. This is by having an ECG (electrocardiogram) test. Results should be read by a cardiologist. For extra clarity an Echocardiogram can also be done. All of CRY’s public events are free to attend.

 

Action: All Youth Councillors to send Paula the name of a link teacher in their school who will be able to book a date in the school calendar for the EFYC and CRY fund raising event.

Deadline: 29th November 2019.

Event Feedback

Youth Councillors to feedback on any events that they have attended in relation to the Youth Council since the last meeting.

Minutes:

·         26/11 Susan Lewis will be attending to talk about the customer strategy.

·         28/11 Youth Councillors have been asked to assist with the Chairman’s 2nd business Networking event. Volunteers needed, 

·         3/12   Epping St Johns pupils will film the Youth Councillors for their film to promote the positive work in Epping

·         10/12 Economic development will meet with the Youth Council about the economic strategy for the district, and discuss the future of the high streets.

·         17/12 EFYC social at Top Golf. Please book your place with Paula urgently.

 

194.

Young Citizen of the Year

Minutes:

The Young Citizen of the Year nomination form is available on line and the closing date is 29th November. Youth Councillors to make sure all schools are aware of this and that they nominate a pupil or two from each school. This award is given to someone who has done something exceptional.

 

Action: Paula to consider whether family/friends who do not live in the District can nominate.

 

Action: Di to send link to Youth Councillors who would like to apply that haven’t done so already. Paper copies are available on the civic reception.

 

195.

Presentation of Certificates

Di to advised the winner of the Youth Council Cup.

Minutes:

The Chairman invited Dr James Bettley the High Sheriff of Essex to present the following awards.

 

The first award is the Jack Petchey Youth Achievement award, this award goes to Archie Flynn. Archie has been nominated by his peers to receive the Youth Achievement award for his commitment to attending the community meetings of the NAP and Safer Epping group.

 

The second award is to be presented to the Epping Forest Youth Council for their input into the ECVYS Youth Voices project around gang culture in West Essex.

 

The High Sherriff thanked The Youth Council for all their help they give around the District and a well done to all.

 

 

196.

Submission forms

To consider any new submission forms received and to give updates on any previous submission form.

Minutes:

·         Susan Lewis will be visiting you all on Tuesday 26 November to talk about the District Councils Customer strategy and Customer Focus Group. 

·         At the next Youth Council meeting on 3rd December, the Epping St Johns pupils will film the Youth Councillors for their film about positive things in Epping

·         On the 10th December, Economic development will meet with the Youth Council about the economic strategy for the district, and discuss the future of the high streets.
