Confirmation of Chairman & Vice-Chairman

To agree the Chairman and Vice-Chairman for this meeting..

 

Minutes:

It was noted that Finlay would be the Chairman and Annabelle would be Vice-Chairman for this meeting.

3.

Youth Councillor Updates

Youth Councillors to report on school issues, achievements, events and training that they have accomplished since the last meeting.

Minutes:

This was an opportunity for Youth Councillors to update the group on any school issues, achievements, events or training since the last meeting.

 

All the schools had returned from the half term holidays and the exam period continued. Some schools were appointing prefects, continuing with exams and having work placements.

 

4.

Election Results and New Members

To announce the election results and introduce the new members.

Minutes:

The new members were asked to introduce themselves and advise what part of their induction days they enjoyed the most. The majority of new Youth Councillors enjoyed meeting new people and the raft building. Di advised that the new T-Shirts had come up larger than expected and anyone requiring a smaller one should contact Di or Paula.

5.

Events

Youth Councillors to feedback on any events that they have attended in relation to the Youth Council since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Di advised that a number of events were available for Youth Councillors to attend, which included;

 

1.            Communities Select Committee – This meeting considers and scrutinises the services and functions of the Communities Directorate and had agreed to co-opt a non-voting member of the Youth Council. Annabelle and Ashwin had been the agreed representatives for 2017/18 and future representative was required.

 

2.            eNgage 2018 – Youth Councillors had been given tickets to eNgage 2018 at The Spotlight, High Street, Hoddesdon. This was a youth and community dance performance, show casing talent from Epping Forest District and beyond. Youth Councillors interested in attending the event would have to make their own way to and from the event. Officers would not be supporting the event, so Youth Councillors would be asked to meet each other there.

 

3.            Epping Town Show – Di advised that Youth Councillors had been asked to help out on 1st July 2018 at the Epping Town Show, although only Youth Councillors who were aged 16 and over could volunteer.

 

4.            Jack Petchey Funding – Youth Councillors discussed a social event using the Jack Petchey funding and considered Top Golf, Panic Rooms and a drumming work shop. Di would investigate the prices email members with details.

6.

Youth Council Cup

To present the Youth Council Cup.

Minutes:

Di advised the Youth Council Cup was an award presented to four Youth Councillors throughout the year for attendance, effort, contribution to projects and self motivation. The award would present every three months and the winners would attend the Chairman’s Civic Dinner in March 2019.

7.

10th Anniversary Planning

To discuss planning for the event.

Minutes:

Di advised that the 10th Anniversary celebrations were happening at the Houses of Parliament on 4 July 2018 at 7 p.m. A coach would depart from the Civic Offices at 5 p.m. and return at 10.30 p.m.

 

All Youth Councillors were required to wear their special 10th Anniversary T-shirts and bring their invitations.  

8.

Jack Petchey Award

To present the Jack Petchey Award.

Minutes:

Di advised that the winner was Oliver Upson. He had been nominated for his commitment to the

Youth Council, contribution in raising the Youth Councils profile in his School and ensuring the drug survey had been promoted. Furthermore Oliver’s attendance and commitment had been outstanding and consistent.

 

Oliver he been invited to attend the Jack Petchey Awards evening on Tuesday 10 July2018 at the Kenneth More Theatre, Oakfield Road, Ilford. 7 – 9pm.

 

9.

To consider any new submission forms received and to give updates on any previous submission form.

Jack Petchey Awards – The Youth Council had received a donation of £750 towards the drugs project and a further £300 towards the visit to the Houses of Parliament from the Jack Petchey Foundation. 

 

(b)          Notices by Paula

 

Paula advised that the Speed Meeting winners were Ashwin, Tallulah and Jasmine.

 

(c)          Notices by Gaby

 

Gaby advised that the MiLife project was in its third year and Youth Councillors would be expected to assist with the project within their schools. Gaby asked Youth Councillors to complete a survey regarding mental health as a pilot to gain further understand on what young people know about mental health and the support networks provided.

 

ACTION – Abigail to amend the mental health survey for young people, to ensure that it can be completed online and anonymously.

 

(d)          Youth Councillors

 

Neighbourhood Action Panel (NAP) – Nina advised that she and Annabelle attended the NAP meetings in Epping. She advised that they were attending to provide a positive image of young people in the area and welcome anyone who lived in Epping to attend these meetings as well.

 

Next Project – Davin enquired about the next project and if it had been agreed as ‘Gangs’, whether some training could be provided.

 

ACTION: To organise training on gang culture and the impact gangs were having on the Home Counties.

 

Drugs Survey – Abigail asked Youth Councillors if the drugs survey should be produced again to give further data to their campaign. The Youth Council agreed to this.

 

ACTION: Abigail to progress.
