Confirmation of Chairman & Vice-Chairman

Drugs Project Update

To update on the progress of the project.

Minutes:

Di advised that the drugs awareness project would be advertised on a bus service that travelled through the following areas; Broxbourne, Cheshunt, Debden, Epping Forest, Hertford, Hoddesdon, Loughton, St Margaret’s, Upshire, Waltham Abbey, Waltham Cross, Ware, Welwyn Garden City, Wormley. The official launched would be on Monday 19 March and would run until 10 June 2017.

 

Abigail advised that 766 surveys had been completed, although some schools had not received many responses. Abigail asked Youth Councillor to promote the survey and get as many young people in the district to complete the survey before the deadline on 31 December 2017.

 

Di advised that the information would form a report, which would be presented to the necessary bodies including the Police and Health Services.

Youth Elections 2018

Di to report.

Minutes:

Di advised that Elections would be held in March 2018 and the current Youth Councillors would stay in office until October 2018, which would enable the current Youth Councillors to mentor.

 

The elections were to be brought forward to March because this time table worked better for the schools and candidates. Training could also be provided in the Easter holidays and before exam periods.

 

Youth Councillors were expected to help out with promotional assemblies between 22 January and 9 February. The closing date for submissions would be Friday 16 February 2018 and elections would be held in schools between 5 March and 23 March 2018. The announcement of elections would be on 27 March 2018.

Youth Councillor Updates

Youth Councillors to report on achievements, events and training that they have accomplished since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Chigwell School – Abigail advised that she had promoted the drugs survey with a high success rate. Di informed everyone that positive comments had been expressed by the Head teacher about the commitment of both of the Chigwell Youth Councillors.

 

Davenant Foundation School – Adam advised that Youth Councillors had promoted themselves in assemblies with the School Council. Finlay advised that the suggestion box had now been installed. Furthermore, Adam advised that that pupils were taking part in an OAP Rave, which involved inviting residents of a local residential home to the school for an evening of entertainment. 

 

Debden Park High School – The survey had been handed over the Head teacher, although nothing else had been actioned.

 

Epping St John’s School -  Marley advised that he was a Forum Representative at school and he would ask about the notice board and suggestion box.

 

The Ongar Academy – Jude advised that the notice board had been created.

 

Roding Valley High School – Raaj advised that there were a lot of changes happening within school and the management team. Sam would promote the survey again through snapchat.

 

West Hatch High School – A photograph for the notice board was required for Ricco.

Events 2018

Di to report.

Minutes:

MiLife, Ongar Academy – Di asked that Jude and Oliver support officers at the MiLife event being held at Ongar Academy on Thursday 7 December 2017.

 

Neighbourhood Action Panel, Epping – Nina would attend with Becky on Thursday 7 December 2017.

 

Communities Select Committee – Ashwin would attend the next meeting on Monday 11 December 2017 at 7 pm, Committee Room 1, Civic Offices, Epping.

 

MiLife, Epping St John’s School – Di asked that Annabelle, Nina and Marley support officers at the MiLife event being held at Epping St John’s School on Thursday 14 December 2017.  

 

Anti-Social Behaviour Meeting - Nina advised that she had attended this meeting and  young people had been high on the agenda. She requested support from other Epping Youth Councillors to attend, to help deal with the negative image people had of young people. Former Youth Council, Town Councillor and District Councillor H Whitbread had chaired this meeting and had reported positively on Nina’s attendance.

AGREED that Annabelle and Nina would attend the next meeting. Any Youth Councillors who were Epping residents were also welcome to attend.

Jack Petchey Achievement Award Presentation

To present the Jack Petchey Award.

Minutes:

The Jack Petchey Achievement Award was presented to Chris for his outstanding contribution and commitment to the Youth Conference. Chris had been nominated by his fellow Youth Councillors for his excellent contribution and outstanding proposal at the Youth Conference debate. He would join fellow Youth Councillors and volunteers at the Jack Petchey Regional awards at the Kenneth More Theatre, Oakfield Road, Ilford, IG1 1BT on Wednesday 7 March 2018 at 7.30pm.

Attendance Award for 2017

To present the attendance award for 2017.

Minutes:

The Chairman advised that Gold and Silver attendance awards were to be presented to Jacob McNulty for achieving 91% and Annabelle Yaman for achieving 88% attendance over the year.

Submission forms

To consider any new submission forms received and to give updates on any previous submission form.

Minutes:

Police Cadets – Di advised that the Police cadets had invited Youth Councillors to attend an activity night at Davenant Foundation School on 23 January 2018 at 7.30 pm -9 pm.

 

Magistrates in the Community – Di advised that someone would be attending the next meeting from the magistrates, to discuss preventative measures for young people before they ended up at the magistrate courts.

Minutes:

Di advised that Eleanor Laing MP, Epping Forest would like to arrange a meeting with the Youth Council in Loughton in 2018. Details would follow once a date and venue had been confirmed.

 

One-to-One – Di advised that the following Youth Councillors needed to book a one-to-one with Di; Adam, Belle, Blake, Charley, Christopher, Jacob, Jess, Jude, Lisa, Marley, Sam and Zac.
