Confirmation of Chairman & Vice-Chairman

At the last meeting it was agreed that Jude would chair this meeting. Regan would be Vice-Chairman.

Youth Councillor Updates

Youth Councillors to report on school issues, achievements, events and training that they have accomplished since the last meeting.

Minutes:

Youth Councillors gave updates from their schools but were mainly very quiet due to the exam period.

Event Feedback

Youth Councillors to feedback on any events that they have attended in relation to the Youth Council since the last meeting.

1.            National Crime Beat Awards 2018

 

Adam informed Youth Councillors that he along with former Youth Councillors Matthew Tinker, Joseph Pascoe and Leonora Troshupa and founders of Milife Roadshow had attended the National Crime Beat Awards ceremony at the Royal National Hotel in London on the 18 April 2018. The National Crimebeat was a youth crime prevention charity of the High Sheriffs’ Association in England and Wales which gave recognition to the most innovative and successful crime prevention projects carried out by young people who were creating safer communities in England and Wales. EFDC won the award and received a medal, certificate and £1000 cheque to continue the work of MiLife.

 

The Chairman of the Council, Councillor D Stallan presented the Award to Youth Councillors and praised them for the recognition and work that they had put into the project.

 

Former Youth Councillor Leonora Troshupa advised that “the entire day was incredible. It was such an honour to be in a room with such inspiring young individuals, as well as being part of a nominated project. All presentations were professional and enlightening. I really feel enriched by my experiences of the day. Her Royal Highness was an absolute delight to speak to, and my interaction with her is something I'll never forget. I will be forever grateful for being a part of such a brilliant day.”

 

2.         Volunteer day – Epping In Bloom

 

Annabelle informed Youth Councillors that she had attended the Epping in Bloom event with the Essex Police Cadets. They had worked together to create an edible flower garden at the Epping Sports centre and constructed several garden chairs for the community garden during the Easter break.

 

3.         Commonwealth Service

 

Ashwin, Jacob and Annabelle attended the Commonwealth Service in Chelmsford with the Chairman of the Council, Councillor D Stallan. There were representatives from the 53 sovereign states representing the Commonwealth of Nations.

 

4.         Communities Select Committee

 

Suzie, Annabelle, Ashwin and Ricco had attended the Communities Select Committee, where adult Councillors had agreed to recommendations to put forward future funding for the Youth Council and an additional £8000 to spend on projects.

Youth Council Elections

Minutes:

Di advised that 25 Youth Councillors had been successful and the Chairman of the Council would announce the results on Tuesday 22 May 2018.

175.

Drug Project

Minutes:

Abigail advised that 3143 responses had been received for the drugs survey. The information had been collated and would be shared with the relevant external authorities.

 

Di congratulated Abigail on her efforts for collating the data and providing it in a usable format. The Drugs awareness posters that would be displayed on buses around the District would be launched in August 2018.

10th anniversary update

Minutes:

Di advised that the 10th Anniversary would be held at the Houses of Parliament on Wednesday 4 July 2018 at 7 pm. The tickets for the event had been sent and would be required to enter the venue. There would be a coach provided for Youth Councillors on the evening and a pick up point at the Civic Offices. Youth Councillors were asked to provide their sizes to Di for the polo shirts that would be provided to all Youth Councillors attending.

 

Youth Councillors interested in creating a short film for the event were Lisa, Oliver, Jude, Suzie, Ashwin, Jacob, Davin and Ricco.

 

Youth Councillors interested in further planning of the event were Annabelle, Abigail, Marley, Ricco, Jacob, Davin, Oliver, Jessica, Suzie, Lisa, Raaj and Ashwin.

Jack Petchey Award

To present the Jack Petchey Award.

Minutes:

Youth Councillors were asked to nominate a Youth Councillor for the Jack Petchey Award. The results would be announced at the next meeting.

To consider any new submission forms received and to give updates on any previous submission form.

Next Project – Di advised that ‘Gangs’ had been raised as a topic of concern for the next project. Youth Councillors were asked to consider ways in which this issue could be highlighted.

Youth Engagement Officer – Gaby advised that Beccie had now left her role as the Youth Engagement Officer and they were currently interviewing to replace this position.

 

(c)          Youth Councillor Notices

 

1-1 – Jacob advised that he required his 1-1 and could a date be arranged. ACTION: Di to organise.

 

(d)          Items for the Next Agenda – 10th Anniversary, Youth Council Cup, Jack Petchey Award, Election Results and New Youth Councillors and school updates.
